Moss

Landscape

Isn’t it plain the sheets of moss, except that
they have no tongues, could lecture
all day if they wanted about

spiritual patience? Isn’t it clear
the black oaks along the path are standing
as though they were the most fragile of flowers?

Every morning I walk like this around
the pond, thinking: if the doors of my heart
ever close, I am as good as dead.

Every morning, so far, I’m alive. And now
the crows break off from the rest of the darkness
and burst up into the sky—as though

all night they had thought of what they would like
their lives to be, and imagined
their strong, thick wings.

words to treasure

silver

Sweet story – I bought this outfit (minus the boots) for Luna while she was in the hospital. When she first saw it, her face lit up as she uttered the sweetest sigh and reached her hand to touch it! At that point, I didn’t care if she ever wore it. I was so happy to witness such delight. Though, now I hope I am not helping to create a little fashion monster. There are worse things, I suppose.

Less sugar, like a Mike’s Drive-In Peppermint shake.

More muscle – my friend Mahoney just challenged me to twenty regular push-ups. I tried after breakfast (not the best timing) and can do ten, so I am already halfway there!

One Community is a monthly project in which participants photograph their homes and community with a theme in mind. The goal is to both showcase similarities and differences in our communities worldwide – and bring us all closer together in understanding through art.

Would you like to join us? Post one or more photos for each of the theme words, treasure, silver, winter, and resolution, and add your blog post to the link-up. Easy! It begins today, January 5th, and stays open for one week.

Snap happy!

Cold

What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.

Loved Faces

Always there comes an hour when one is weary of one’s work and devotion to duty, and all one craves for is a loved face, the warmth and wonder of a loving heart.

Sparkling

Begin doing what you want to do now. We are not living in eternity. We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand — and melting like a snowflake…
